MATTHEW 5: 7
BLESSED (INDWELT BY GOD) ARE THE MERCIFUL FOR THEY SHALL OBTAIN MERCY

The Greek word for merciful is “eleos,” literally, “a special and immediate regard to the misery which is the consequence of sin.” It is mercy which sends a missionary to a foreign country to serve a people who have never heard the gospel. Mercy is the closest man can come to being able to offer grace. Grace to forgive sin comes only from God.
My son WAS an alcoholic. He understands the nature of addiction and has been delivered from it. He has a heart of compassion for others who suffer from drug or alcohol addiction and is now a counselor for Teen Challenge. My son is no longer an alcoholic. He is a, "new creature in Christ Jesus." He was shown mercy by someone who had suffered the same problem he had and had been delivered. Only God can redeem. The merciful enter into the redemption process because Jesus gave grace to them.
Read Luke 10: 25-36. The parable of the Good Samaritan is Jesus’ example of mercy. Mercy is more than a feeling of compassion. Mercy is the action that offers help because one has been helped. One of the best illustrations of the Christian heart is the cliché that says, "Christianity is one poor beggar telling another poor beggar where to find bread." Mercy is what led Christianity to help bring an end to slavery in the western world. It is what led the church to build hospitals and schools. It is mercy that sees the value of one and every soul and offers Christ to them. We can only give what we have received. Mercy is LOVE in action.

Have you come to the point in your Christian walk that you, through a heart of compassion, stop what you are doing to show compassion to someone who needs salvation? It is the only way we can show Jesus to a world dying in sin. It is the only way that you too can receive mercy. It is not a one-time thing. We will discover in eternity that mercy has no end.

Prayer: Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner. Help me to have a heart to reach out to others and offer them Jesus, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Amen.
